Day 5- Petrified Forest and Painted Desert

Day 5: Petrified Forest and Painted Desert

Hey friends and family it’s us again!! The Dopeys and the rest of the TWB crew parted early this morning from the Military Academy in New Mexico after a night under the stars. For breakfast this morning we had doughnut holes, bananas, and nutria grain bars. Following many long naps and jam sessions on the bus and vans we arrived at the sign of the Petrified Forest and then headed to take pictures of the unforgettable Painted Desert. For lunch we had sandwiches on Hawaiian rolls. *Attention parents, you need to get us some of these, they were amazing.* In addition to the tasty sandwiches, we got some grapes, chips and good times. We then continued our bonding experience through a variety of games. Driving through the scenic landscape of Arizona was breathtaking, and TWB was able to appreciate the state due to the perfect temperature.

After a quick stop at the Safeway grocery store deli or McDonalds, we got our stuffed bellies back on the bus to finish the last leg of the drive for the day. Alas, we made it on time to catch the astounding sunset at the Grand Canyon, which was everything promised and more. After a quick photo opt, we made our way to the campsite to set up our sleeping gear. *PSA parents we are going to snuggle with one another through 40 degree temperature tonight. BRRRRR.* However, before we get a chilly good night’s rest, we have prepared the breakfast and snacks for our amazing adventure tomorrow. We will check in with you all tomorrow. A reminder to check your phones as we will be making our first calls home after we hike the Grand Canyon! A final note, we would like to send our love and prayers to our families tonight.
