Day 10: LA and Hollywood
Hey hey America it’s the Sleepy’s
again! Today we headed out to the land of stars, Hollywood! We started the day
off waking up to some nice dew. Everyone dried their stuff off and packed it up
and we headed out to see the Hollywood Bowl.
We enjoyed a traveling breakfast of some of our favorite cereals and
juice. At the Hollywood Bowl we all learned a few facts about Hollywood and
some of the famous sites you can see there. Also, our very own Mallory Gardner
performed at the Hollywood Bowl with her new hit single “UCLA”!
After that, we headed into downtown
Hollywood where we saw the Groman Chinese Theatre in all its glory…and to our
surprise, we got to see our friendly neighborhood Spiderman floating in the air.
The newest Spiderman movie is having its opening night at the theatre tonight. Due
to higher security, sadly we could not trick the tourists into thinking our
very own Heather Welch was from “Greys Anatomy” and “Game of Thrones”. While at
the theatre we got to put our hands and feet in famous actors and celebrity’s
molds. We got to see Marilyn Monroe’s handprints
that we learned that are the dirtiest/most popular! We got to spend some time
in La La Land to do some shopping for Hollywood souvenirs.
Then we headed out to the one and
only University of California Los Angeles!! We walked around the breathtaking campus
and had a nice lunch of turkey wraps and chips.
There was a piano where we ate, that a few of our campers got to play and
sing for us. We had a chance to check out the campus and buy some cool UCLA
gear at the campus store!
After that we headed down to our
beautiful campsite at El Capitan Beach State Park. On the way there we picked
up a hitchhiker AKA the man, the myth, the legend, Grant Deaton!! Once we got to the camp we saw the beautiful
Pacific Ocean by our bedside. We got a
chance to walk along the beach and take some spectacular photos while the cooks
prepared our delicious meal of spaghetti, bread, and salad. The dinner reminded
many of us of a good home cooked meal. After dinner we had a fire and
sing-along with a delicious surprise of s’mores!! Alex Rote's Uncle and Aunt also visited us tonight, and even brought us ice cream sandwiches, we were so thankful!!! Thanks Bill :)
We had the chance to clean up
after the fire and take a nice warm and refreshing shower for 25 cents for 2
minutes (way cheaper than the Grand Canyon). We ended the day watching the sun
set with full bellies and ready to hit the hay after a long day in California!
See you tomorrow as we continue our travel through California. Goodnight from
the sleepy squad (we definitely will be sleeping)!!

AJ and Mallory do their research! AJ's was factual and Mallory's was a song! Our participants are doing a great job with the research!! |
Alex does his research, then we had a screaming contest to see which participant was going to start the tourist trick, and make them think Heather Welch is a star!!! Even though she is to us :) |
