Waking up at 4:45am was a little bit rough for some of us.
Although, we got through it and made it to the bus on time to travel all the
way from Louisiana to Texas. It was a very long ride but at least we got a nap
in. Today, we celebrated Annabelle and Kaylee's birthday!!
For breakfast, we had apples and pop tarts with juice. Then, snuck in
another nap, we drove over 600 miles today. A lot of us also played cards and made bracelets. After stopping a couple
times at the Flying J gas station and getting snacks here and there, we ate lunch on the bus as well. Participant Sam Turner was able to meet up with his sister, Alex, who lives in Houston. For
lunch we had salad in bags with dressing and croutons. We then rode the bus for
a while longer and then arrived in Texas, Where EVERYTHING IS BIGGER. We
learned not to mess with Texas because of the dry heat.
Our main stop for the
day was the Alamo, where we saw the remains of the Mexican- American War that kept Texas apart of the United States and not apart of Mexico. Then we had some free time to explore the
River Walk. There was a lot to see and do, and many of us got our Texas souvenirs, or a bite to eat at a restaurant on the River Walk.
After that, we got back on the bus and ate DIY pizza for dinner. After about an
hour, we arrived at Schreiner University where we are staying tonight. Students Kayla and Jocelyn, members of the women's basketball team, welcomed us and told us all about the university. We then discussed cleaning duties and upcoming group job changes. We were all ready for
showers and sleep. This is the last night for the Bashfuls to write the blog,
so signing off, see ya soon and don’t miss the Bashfuls TOO much ;). Tomorrow we head to Carlsbad Caverns and Roswell, New Mexico.
